The HLA-PA 2013 Employment Conference
The Hearing Loss Association of Pennsylvania (HLA-PA) plans to conduct a one-day educational conference in Harrisburg on April 19, 2013, designed to provide hard of hearing employees and those about to enter the workforce with information and skills they need to achieve communication access in the workplace. The conference also has the objective of educating employers and human resources personnel about the many simple accommodations which enable hard of hearing workers to communicate on the job. Workshops will provide training for hard of hearing workers in several areas, including (a) PA Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) and (b) technology and coping skills for improved communication on the job
Plenary
sessions will provide information on the impact of hearing loss on
work and life; workplace barriers that still exist 20 years after the
passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act; and a panel
discussion allowing participants to ask questions of successful hard
of hearing employees and their employers. An exhibit hall will
showcase assistive equipment and resources.
